On Friday, July 31st, 2020, we successfully held an HR event attended by 45 HR professionals in Japan using Microsoft Teams. Titled Agile Performance Management: The Microsoft Experience, it was delivered by June Horie, HR Manager at Microsoft, and hosted by William Liu, Managing Director at Human Future.

Growth Mindset and Delivery Impact are the key takeaways that also remind us of growth traits and imagination at GE.
For a performance management system to work effectively, there are 3 basic questions we must ask ourselves:
- Does it reflect the corporate culture and effectively support achieving the business strategy?
- Is it aligned with Talent Management, Compensation & Benefits, and other HR Policies?
- Does the top management take it seriously, not merely treat it as an HR matter but as part of business strategy? Can the middle management implement it effectively?

For the first time, we used the Together function of Teams to take photos of the event.

Conclusions
Performance Management is the core of Human Resources Management. While the system evolves over time, the principles of successful performance management have remained unchanged. Huge thanks to June Horie for speaking to us about the Microsoft Experience, and to Tianyi Zong for sharing her initiative - Coffee Chat providing career counseling for students who have been affected by COVID-19.
