Toward the end of 2021, Human Future consultants supported Mech-Mind Robotics, a Chinese startup robotics technology company to set up their businesses in Japan through talent acquisition and HR consulting.

A Challenging Market Entry, Resulting in a Fitting Search Partnership


In October 2021, Mech-Mind Robotics launched a much-anticipated entry into the Japanese market. This market entry needed to be kickstarted by the placement of the most critical position: HR Manager. This is a key position for any market entry or startup, as the HR Manager is responsible for acquiring talents and building the workforce.
At first, Mech-Mind tasked their internal recruiters with sourcing an HR Manager for the Japan branch and spent significant resources on this project. However, after some time without fruitful prospects, the company reached out to Human Future, hoping to leverage our executive search expertise. As Human Future is known for the best network of Chinese-speaking HR talents in Japan, this partnership was a natural fit.

Clearing the Initial Hurdle: The Crucial Quest for an HR Manager


Tasked with the assignment for an experienced and outstanding HR Manager, we commenced our search and presented a shortlist of five strong candidates within two weeks. This quick turnaround impressed Mech-Mind representatives. Through further interviews and screening, the company was able to identify the right candidate and close the position with the help of our consultants.

The new HR Manager got on board at Mech-Mind Japan as scheduled and turned out to be a remarkably successful hire. Soon after onboarding, she added around 5 other talents to the team. One of those new hires was a Marketing Specialist, who in less than three months handled event planning and helped Mech-Mind meet the schedule for one of the largest robot trade shows in the world - the International Robot Exhibition 2022 (iREX2022). Such achievements by new hires are proof of the HR Manager’s capabilities and passion for talent management.

Continued Victory: Scouring the Talent Market for an Exceptional Sales Leader 


Another critical placement for Mech-Mind Japan was a Sales Specialist. The client’s requirements were clear-cut: a young, talented Sales professional with industry experience who can hit the ground running right away. After thoroughly studying the assignment, we were able to do a highly targeted search based on their industry, products, and target companies.

Our star candidate ended up having experience at two of the target companies. He had just joined his previous workplace in March 2021 – hardly half a year at the time of our search. Though such a short spell usually means bad timing for a job switch, our consultants were able to connect with the candidate, understand his circumstances and provide thoughtful insights which finally led to his decision to accept an offer at Mech-Mind.

As the first Sales Specialist for Mech-Mind in Japan, this candidate also proved to be another excellent hire, whose performance undoubtedly pleased our client. He indeed “hit the ground running” at once and quickly delivered business results.
